🌍 Romania 2025: 2.5 million international guests
(20 February 2026)
Security as a strategic competitive advantage
Romania is evolving from an “emerging destination market” to a stable European growth destination.
Around 2.5 million international visitors chose Romania in 2025 – including a significant proportion of digital bookings via alternative accommodation platforms.
The foundation for this growth is multidimensional:
• Natural assets (Carpathian Mountains, Danube Delta, Black Sea)
• Historical and cultural heritage
• Urban city break market
• Attractive price-performance ratio
• High internal security and geopolitical stability
Security as a driver of tourism

Romania is increasingly positioning itself as:
• A politically stable EU member
• A safe urban space
• A low-risk travel market
• A reliable investment location
International travelers are sensitive to risk profiles. Destinations with a low perceived threat level are gaining market share. Romania is structurally benefiting from this development.
Market performance in 2025

• Italy confirms high structural demand.
• Israel shows resilience despite geopolitical pressures – declines are exogenous, not structural.
• The US and UK underscore increasing transatlantic visibility.
• Regional markets ensure basic capacity utilization and short-haul momentum.

The growing share of digital short-term rentals (Airbnb, Booking Apartments) leads to systematic underreporting.
Taking this 20% segment into account, the real figure is …
